Canada has decided to ease its work permit rules to combat its ongoing labour shortage. The Canadian Government has decided to announce new rules which allows spouses and family members of permanent residents to come and work. Details shared below.

Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the faster temporary resident visa (TRV) processing and more laidback application measures “to make it easier for families to reunite and support themselves once in Canada.”

These new measures aim not making both travel to Canada and working in Canada easier for immigrants. The Canadian Government has announced the following measures

  1. Faster temporary resident visa (TRV) processing times for spousal applicants
  2. New and dedicated processing tools for spousal TRV applicants
  3. New open work permit for spousal and family class applicants
  4. Open work permit extensions for open work permit holders expiring between August 1 and the end of 2023.

Minister Fraser further added that the applications submitted would now be proceeded within 30 days. He also added that many applicants have already bene processed using these new provisions. As of now, the approval rate stands at 93 percent.

As per an official statement issued by IRCC, Minister Fraser also stated that spousal applicants, along with other open work permit holders, whose open work permits expire between August 1 and the end of 2023, will be able to extend their work permits for an additional 18 months. This option will also be provided to students whose post-graduation work permits are close to expiring.
